Doesn't Not Compute

My log of experiences with GNU/Linux and computers in general.

Please do not attempt to adjust your screen . . .

There is nothing  — as far as I know — wrong with your computer. I’ve simply switched the WordPress theme again, this time to Sandbox 1.6.1, and customized the CSS.

Yes, it’s ugly as sin compared to what it was. My CSS skills are not paticularly l33t yet. But for anyone using dialup to view my site, things should load much faster from now on.

There are still a few tweaks to be made — setting fonts instead of letting the browser decide, for example. But for the most part, I’m surprisingly satisfied with my 4-5 hours of work. I had hoped to just modify an existing theme, but that never turned out well.

Browser compatibility, as tested:

  • IE 3: Obviously no CSS support, and apparantly no PNG support either. Didn’t realize that, sorry to anyone still running Windows 3.1. 😦
  • IE 4.01: Weird issue with text getting right-justified, and the navbar is a vertical list rather than horizontal. No transparent images either, obviously.
  • IE 5.01: Aside from lacking transparency support, appears to display perfectly.
  • IE 5.5: Ignores my rule about hiding the “Skip to content” option, and misaligns the sidebar and posts. 👿
  • IE 6: Again ignores the hiding rule, still no transparency support. Otherwise perfect.
  • Not tested with IE 7.
  • IE 8: Works perfectly
  • Firefox 3.5.7: Works perfectly.
  • SRWare Iron for Linux: Works better than perfectly. I swear, it renders faster than my eyes can register.

For anyone who wasn’t expecting this, perhaps you should follow me on Twitter. My ID there is @mulenmar.

If you hate Twitter . . . well, I don’t know what to tell you. I update it more often than I do this blog, and have a broader range of subjects that I discuss there. But I do hate the 140 character limit. *sigh*

Please, let me know what you think of this new theme, and feel free to leave suggestions. I doubt I’ll be adding images to the theme, other than possibly a header image, but any and all suggestions are welcome.
